PaneLive with vMix

Set up PaneLive with vMix and see what each connection offers. For common controls, tally, voice and countdowns, see the quick start guide.

Connect

Connect through PaneLive Companion (recommended for PaneLive)

Start vMix and its PaneLive Companion provider. In PaneLive, pair a vMix → PaneLive Companion profile, then check that vMix is connected and which role you have. To control the production, you need the Operator role.

Setting up Companion for the first time? Start with the Companion Installation manual’s Windows installation instructions, then follow vMix provider setup and device pairing.

Control, video and monitor sound use separate connections. The Web Controller provides control; two SRT outputs send Program and Preview to Companion; OMT Audio Outputs provide the Headphones and Master mixes. Companion then delivers media to your paired mobile apps. Follow the screenshot walkthrough below before testing picture and sound. Select any screenshot to enlarge it.

Settings → Web Controller: enable control and note the address and login details.

Companion setup · 1 of 5

Enable vMix control

In vMix: Settings → Web Controller

Turn on Enabled and note the port, normally 8088. Use the vMix computer’s address and your Web Controller username and password in Companion.

The screenshots use 192.168.88.121 and the username admin as examples. Replace them with your own details. Keep the login and LAN restrictions appropriate to your studio; the local-computer login exemption does not grant access from another computer.

The Telestrator options shown are separate from the Program and Preview SRT feeds. Configure them only if you want to use Telestrator.

SRT carries the two video feeds. Audio Outputs → OMT supplies the monitor mixes.

Route video and enable monitor audio

In vMix: Settings → Outputs / NDI / OMT / SRT

For Output 1, select Output as the source. This is the Program feed. For Output 2, select Preview. Use the numbered Output rows, below the Fullscreen rows.

Enable SRT for both outputs. Under Additional Outputs, set Audio Outputs → OMT to On. This exposes the audio mixes, including Headphones and Master, for Companion monitoring.

The OMT switches beside video Outputs 1 and 2 can stay Off for this SRT setup. The separate Audio Outputs → OMT switch is the one needed for monitor sound. Working faders and meters alone do not confirm that audio is reaching the phone.

This example uses outputs 1 and 2. If your studio uses other available slots, match those slots in Companion and keep Program and Preview on separate ports.

Program: Output 1, Listener, port 10000, latency 100 ms.

Companion setup · 3 of 5

Set up the Program SRT listener

Open the cog beside Output 1

Use HD720: it is sufficient for monitoring, saves bandwidth and helps keep latency low.

Under SRT Settings, choose the lowest H264 quality preset (H264 1.5mbps AAC 128kbps) for the same reasons. Enable Use Hardware Encoder.

Enable SRT, select Listener, set port 10000 and latency to 100 ms, then save with OK.

Preview: Output 2, Listener, port 10001, latency 100 ms.

Companion setup · 4 of 5

Give Preview its own SRT listener

Open the cog beside Output 2

Use the same HD720 resolution and lowest H264 quality preset as Program. Enable Use Hardware Encoder.

Enable SRT, select Listener, set port 10001 and latency to 100 ms.

Save with OK and confirm that Output 2 uses Preview as its source.

Match Companion’s host, HTTP credentials, output numbers and SRT ports to vMix.

Companion setup · 5 of 5

Match the vMix adapter in Companion

In PaneLive Companion: Adapters → vMix

Enter the vMix host, HTTP port 8088 and your Web Controller credentials. Set Program output to 1 with Program SRT port 10000, and Preview output to 2 with Preview SRT port 10001.

Set SRT latency to 100 milliseconds to match both vMix listeners, then select Apply vMix settings. Wait for Connected and synchronized with vMix.

That status confirms the control connection. Pair your phone or tablet with Companion and test Program, Preview and monitor sound separately using the checks below.

8088 belongs to vMix control. 10000 and 10001 belong to its SRT listeners. Use Companion’s own pairing address for the mobile connection.

Settings that must match

These values reproduce the screenshots. Use your own host and credentials; if you change a port, output slot or latency, update both ends.

Check picture and Pro monitor sound on your mobile device

  1. 01

    Check Program and Preview independently

Put different inputs on Program and Preview in vMix. Confirm that each mobile view shows the correct picture. During a rehearsal, make a Cut or transition and check that both views follow vMix.

  2. 02

    Listen to the monitor mix

Play a known audio source and open audio monitoring in PaneLive. Select the Headphones or monitor mix when available and listen with headphones. Check vMix’s Headphones level and Solo state. If a separate Master mix is offered, test it too. The SRT outputs’ Master audio setting does not replace the OMT Headphones feed.

  3. 03

Check the media path if control works but media does not

Confirm both SRT listeners, the matching ports and latency, and Audio Outputs → OMT On. Allow the configured SRT UDP ports between vMix and Companion and allow Companion’s media traffic to your mobile device. Check the same local network, firewall rules and Wi-Fi isolation.

Connect

Connect directly to vMix

  1. 01

    Enable the Web Controller

In vMix, enable the Web Controller and note its address, port and login details.

  2. 02

    Add a direct profile

In PaneLive, add a vMix direct profile, enter those details and connect.

  3. 03

    Confirm the basics

Check that your inputs, Program, Preview and output controls appear before you set up video and sound.

  4. 04

    Configure SRT video

For video, set up two vMix outputs as SRT listeners, one for Program and one for Preview, each with its own output slot and port. Enter the same slots, ports and latency in your PaneLive profile.

  5. 05

    Configure monitor sound

To hear monitor sound in PaneLive, set up the vMix Headphones OMT output. PaneLive picks up the Headphones source from the computer in your profile. If your setup uses a specific monitor port, enter it in the profile.

PaneLive controls vMix through the Web Controller and its HTTP API, which usually runs on port 8088 (use your own setting if you changed it). Video and monitor sound travel separately, over SRT and OMT.

Prepare and take the next input

In PaneLive, pick the next input under Preview, then choose Cut or one of your configured transitions. Afterwards, check that Program shows the new input. A quick transition uses the duration set on that action. With PaneLive Companion, Quick Play and the default transition follow your vMix settings, so adjust those in vMix.

For a focused selection screen, open the scene, input and audio solo views from the Recording deck. Input Solo audio controls work on their own, so check the current solo state before you use them.

Sound, recording and destinations

Use input faders, mute and Solo, plus Master volume. vMix faders top out at 0 dB. Input meters work right away; to hear a mix, set up the OMT audio output.

For direct monitoring in PaneLive, make sure Headphones is the selected source. With PaneLive Companion, you can hear both a monitor mix and a separate Master mix when its audio setup provides them. PaneLive shows you the Master routing; change routing in vMix.

Start and stop recording from PaneLive. PaneLive Pro shows your configured destinations, so you can control them all together or one by one. Check that you picked the right destination and that the status confirms it.

Shortcuts

First set up Web Controller shortcuts in vMix, then open Hotkeys in PaneLive. PaneLive finds their names and triggers whatever each one is currently assigned to. Direct connections can also send permitted vMix key commands. Refresh after you change assignments. If PaneLive can’t reach the shortcut page, the deck stays empty while all other controls keep working.

Draw with Telestrator (PaneLive Pro)

  1. 01

    Configure the vMix page

Set up the vMix Telestrator page and its Video Source, and make sure your mobile device can reach the page.

  2. 02

    Open Telestrator

Open Telestrator in PaneLive once it shows as available.

  3. 03

    Complete access if required

If the page asks for credentials, fill in the access dialog. With PaneLive Companion, confirm the browser origin when asked. Browser credentials are entered here, separately from Companion pairing.

  4. 04

    Draw

Draw with the vMix page’s own tools. Give the page a video source or output that leaves out the drawing overlay, so your drawing doesn’t appear inside itself.

  5. 05

    Return to PaneLive

Tap Close to go back to where you were in PaneLive. If the browser video won’t start, tap Reload or follow the setup tips.

Telestrator opens the real vMix browser tool, so you draw directly in vMix. It works with or without PaneLive’s SRT streams. PaneLive Companion provides the page details, and your device loads the page straight from vMix.
