PaneLive Companion · Manual in preparation

Operation manual

Prepare your studio and run a production session with your whole team. We are still writing this manual; the sections below give you the daily checks and an outline of device access, monitoring and shared tools.

1. Prepare for a session

  1. Open your production software and load the project for the show.
  2. Open PaneLive Companion from Start on Windows, Finder → Applications or Spotlight on macOS, or the applications menu or application launcher on Linux. On Windows, you can also use the desktop shortcut if you created one during setup.
  3. If Companion is already running, reopen the management window from its tray or menu-bar icon.
  4. Check that Companion is connected to your production software. For OBS, use the same desktop account and check that the Companion plugin is enabled in Plugins Manager.
  5. Connect each PaneLive device with its saved profile and check its connection and role.
  6. Check scenes or inputs, output state, and the picture, sound or script each device will use.

Companion not installed yet? Follow the Installation manual first.

2. Devices and access roles

Coming soon.

This section will show you how to name and identify devices, review Viewer and Operator access and handle role requests. It will also explain how to pick a workspace for each crew member while their role decides what they may control.

Related guide: Choose a view for each crew member.

3. Scenes, audio and outputs

Coming soon.

This section will cover Preview and Program, transitions, audio controls and recording or streaming. Each step will pair an action with the result you should see, including how to spot a command that is still pending or has failed.

Program guides: OBS Studio, vMix and Streamlabs Desktop.

4. Picture and sound monitoring

Coming soon.

This section will show you how to choose video feeds, turn on local audio playback and check monitor mixes. It will explain how your local listening level relates to the production mix, how audition approvals work and what each program offers for picture and sound.

5. Shared countdowns and tally

Coming soon.

This section will show you how to start and cancel countdowns, see which device triggered them and check the result after GO. It will also cover assigning tally displays and what the other connected devices see.

Related steps: Countdowns and Tally setup.

6. Scripts and teleprompter sessions

Coming soon.

This section will show you how to assign scripts, prepare private playback and organize shared sessions. It will explain what the Controller, Master Player and Monitor each do, how these session roles relate to production access and how to rehearse a session.

Related guide: Private and shared teleprompter.

7. Troubleshooting

Coming soon.

This section will list short fixes, each with a symptom, a check and a solution, for lost connections, unavailable production software, restricted controls, missing picture or sound, and script or session problems. It will finish with what to gather before you ask for support.

Need help now? Visit Support or Report an issue.

8. Finish the session

  1. Stop your recordings and streams and check in your production software that they have stopped.
  2. End any prompting session and disconnect the devices that no longer need the production connection.
  3. When the crew is done, quit Companion from its management window or tray icon. Closing the management window alone keeps Companion running in the background.

For the next session, open PaneLive Companion from Start on Windows, Applications on macOS or your applications menu or launcher on Linux. Reconnect the saved device profiles and run the preparation checks again.
